Montréal, January 27, 2010 – On behalf of the Canadian Boreal Initiative (CBI), Suzann Méthot, regional director for Québec, congratulates Ghislain Picard on his reelection as Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Québec and Labrador (AFNQL). “Since 1992, Mr. Picard has earned the confidence of the leaders of the AFNQL seven times,” said Ms. Méthot. « His political engagement will continue, along with his goals of obtaining governmental, cultural, and linguistic recognition for the nations that he represents.” Mr. Picard was re-elected by a majority of chiefs for an additional three-year term. Altogether, 38 chiefs from 43 member communities voted in the Assembly, which took place in Québec City this January 25 to 27.
